The recent pandemic put severe stress on the U.S. workforce, and federal employees were not exempt from that. The sudden change to full-time remote work, financial trouble, health issues and childcare challenges all rose in prominence. To help workforces deal with these challenges, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) also rose to the forefront, leveraging pandemic-driven technologies to help improve the services they offer.
Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC) today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Magellan Health, Inc.
The acquisition enables Centene to provide whole-health, integrated healthcare solutions to deliver better health outcomes at lower costs for complex, high-cost populations.
Magellan Federal has been awarded the opportunity to continue delivering Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) & Work-Life Services for the civilian employees within Department of Defense (DoD), through Washington Headquarters Services (WHS). The new WHS Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract is an opportunity for Magellan to provide services to more than 500,000 DoD employees and their family member around the globe. With nearly 50 years of experience in EAP, Magellan is an industry leader in the EAP and Work-Life Services market, serving over 900 active EAP clients and 750 active Work-Life clients touching over 15 million total EAP members’ lives.

Magellan Federal will continue providing support for ID cards issued to Navy service members and their families under a recently announced contract worth up to $84 million.
Magellan Federal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Magellan Health, has been doing this work since August 2019 and will provide services for up to another 5.5 years under the Identification Card Administration support services contract. The company currently serves more than 900,000 customers, providing services for Common Access Cards, which are used for members of the Navy and eligible family members to obtain certain benefits and privileges.
Magellan Federal will continue operating and maintaining the CAC workstations, processing CACs, and providing application guidance for eligible customers at 68 Navy installations worldwide.
“Our team has demonstrated our capacity to manage the highly complex, detail-oriented services on the Navy ICA program, including our rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CEO Oscar Montes.
“Faced with unprecedented challenges, we were able to ensure continuity of quality services to the Navy, and we are proud to be awarded the opportunity to continue this important work,” Montes said.
The new contract has one base year and four and a half option years.
